Blog - 🎃 A Night at the Legion

Last night, I went to the Legion for their Halloween dance 🎶 At first, I was hesitant. I thought I'd be the youngest one there. Part of me almost didn't go. But I'm so glad I did, because what I found instead was a lively, welcoming crowd of all ages, a great band, and a night filled with laughter, movement, and connection.

The Legion, for those who may not know, holds a special place in Canadian life. It's a gathering space that honours and supports our veterans - a community built on service, remembrance, and belonging. Buying a ticket to one of their events, like last night's Halloween dance, helps fund that important work - programs that give back to those who've given so much. 🇨🇦

The dance itself? Simple, joyful, and surprisingly lively. There was food, music, laughter, and the best part - people of all ages. I went with three wonderful women - 70s and 80s, full of heart and stories. One even let me sneak a picture. The others, camera-shy as they were, reminded me of something tender: how many of us hesitate to be photographed as we get older. But their beauty was unmistakable - in their laughter, their kindness, their spirit.

And it made me think - how often do we judge an event, an outing, or an invitation before it even happens? We tell ourselves little stories: Will I be the youngest? The oldest? The only one who doesn't know anyone? Will it be fun? Sometimes, we need to let all of that go - to drop the expectations, the worries, and just say yes. Because when we do, we often find joy waiting for us on the other side of hesitation.

I'm so glad I said yes to the invite. It was a reminder to say yes more often - to community, to music, to connection. To enjoy what there is to enjoy.

💫 Resilience in Action:

Social Connection & Openness to Experience;
Letting go of assumptions, showing up with an open heart, and engaging with community builds resilience. It reminds us that belonging doesn't have an age limit and joy can be found wherever people gather with good hearts.
